Free clinic expands into dedicated space to serve those in need of pain relief without opioids

The Southwest Florida Free Pain Clinic, the only free pain clinic in Florida for low-income, uninsured patients, is pleased to announce that it will hold a grand opening at its new location on Thursday, February 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. The clinic is located at 6831 Palisades Park Court, Unit 3 in Fort Myers. The open house will feature refreshments and tours of the facility, the opportunity to meet volunteers and staff, and testimonials from patients. All volunteers, supporters and friends are invited to this celebration.

“We are so blessed to have found this space in which to grow our free pain clinic into daytime hours,” said Dr. Alan Gruning, Executive/Medical Director of the Southwest Florida Free Pain Clinic.  “Our location in the Daniels/Metro corridor and close proximity to Gulf Coast Medical Center will allow us to help more hurting people.”

Previously, the Southwest Florida Free Pain Clinic was located at Fort Myers First Church of the Nazarene which provided donated space for services one evening a week. This last year, board members and staff focused on fundraising to expand the clinic to daytime hours in an effort to treat more patients in need.

Beginning in March, the Southwest Florida Free Pain Clinic will expand hours of operation and will offer services on both Tuesdays 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursdays 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Further expansion efforts are underway, with the ultimate goal being a permanent full time staffed clinic and the ability to utilize the model to replicate across the state.

The Southwest Florida Free Pain Clinic is a 501(c)3 organization founded in 2010 by Alan Gruning, D.O., to meet the needs of low-income, uninsured individuals suffering from painful conditions. The clinic treats this under-served demographic using a Functional Medicine model, addressing physical, spiritual, emotional and social needs. There are currently no other options for these patients.

Its mission is to provide free medical treatment without the use of opioids using holistic principles and compassionate Biblical Christian values. It utilizes physician and chiropractic care, physical and massage therapy, nutrition and lifestyle counseling, essential oil therapy, and modalities to alleviate pain at the source and begin an effective healing process. No drugs are used in treatment.

The vision of expanded services in a permanent dedicated setting, to reach more patients and improve their outcomes, has been made possible by fundraising efforts and growing community support including funding from The Southwest Florida Community Foundation, Price Foundation, Florida Association of Free and Charitable Clinics, Cape Coral Community Foundation, and others.

The clinic utilizes more than 50 loyal volunteers, including medical professionals who donate time and resources for the benefit of the patients. It is the only clinic of its kind in Florida, and has been successful in keeping patients out of the emergency room and drug free. Successful treatment helps patients get back to work and helps them better care for themselves and their families.
